Genetic SNP Interpretation & Nutrition Counseling
Many people are hearing words like nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics, MTHFR, COMT, ancestry DNA, genetic SNP testing, and more and wondering how it relates to them. They might wonder, "what is the best genetic testing?" or what in the heck is an "MTHFR mutation test?!" Or even "What is a SNP and why should I care?"
Others have done genetic testing and are wondering, "is DNA raw data really relevant or helpful?" "how can I get a 23 and Me review?" "now that I have my raw data, what do I do with it?" and questions like this.
Because personalized nutrition is now becoming more popular, the options for genetic testing are increasing and this can all be very confusing.
On this site I offer information to get you started in determining IF genetic SNP testing is right for you and if so, how to start. I also offer genetic SNP interpretation and nutrition counseling.
Genetic SNP Interpretation and Nutrition Counseling: $200 for the initial 90-minute session. I work over Zoom OR in person in Rockland County, NY.
In Genetic SNP Interpretation and Counseling sessions we will review your health history, main concerns, current and past diet, lifestyle, and fitness habits, and other factors that may be affecting your health. We will then look at the genetic SNP information and current lab work for educational purposes to see how they may guide future health practices.
Genetic SNPs are only ONE piece of the puzzle. We must always look at the SNP information in conjunction with other factors. SNPs should never be looked at and acted upon in isolation.
In the nutrition counseling session we will focus mainly on food, fitness, and lifestyle practices that might help with health concerns. When a nutrition deficiency is suspected, further lab work and supplementation may be suggested. I am NOT a medical doctor and therefore everything we discuss should be verified and cleared with your doctor. I am not able to order blood work or write prescriptions.
For practical purposes I need to divide everyone wondering about DNA testing into two groups: those that have done genetic testing and those that haven't.
For those that have already done genetic testing
If you have the genetic raw data but have not run a report to analyze it, generally I have two reports that I recommend for analyzing the genetic raw data.
1. If you are looking for the whole shebang and want data on over 120 SNPs ranging from methylation, detoxification, and neurotransmitters, to fitness and predisposition for celiac or vitamin D & A processing, I strongly suggest the Methylgenetic Nutrition Analysis report. The cost for that report is $100. You can request that by contacting me directly.
2. If you are looking for a more basic test that still has a solid amount of information then I recommend Strategene by Seeking Health. The cost for that report is $45. You can run the report with them directly.
